Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Fungal infection has emerged as a global health threat for populations worldwide, especially because of the expanding number of subjects at risks. Of course, immunocompromised patients remain primarily concerned, but other categories have been recently described, like individuals hosted in intensive care units or those suffering from chronic inflammatory diseases. Thus, one should be aware of all the challenges that we will have to overcome in order to enhance the diagnosis, the treatment, and more globally, the understanding of the fungal diseases. Great efforts have to be provided by the whole scientific community for reducing the burden of morbi- mortality. This probably begins with larger diffusion of the scientific knowledge about this topic. The present special issue of Frontiers in Bioscience represents a great opportunity to gather a bunch of original information that could help to better address the fungal issue and to raise additional questions. Enjoy your read!
