Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Extracellular vesicles (EVs), including exosomes, microvesicles and apoptotic bodies, are released by most cell types and detectable in the body fluids. They carry lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids, according to their cellular origin. EVs transfer this cargo to other cells playing a key role into cell-to-cell and organs communication in both physiological and pathological conditions. The properties of EVs have suggested their application as prognostic and diagnostic tool, as well as their use as therapeutic tool in tissue regeneration and drug delivery.
The purpose of this Special Issue is to provide insights into current knowledge regarding the roles of extracellular vesicles in human diseases, and both reviews and original articles are welcomed. Reviews should provide a state-of-the-art overview of extracellular vesicles in the context of human diseases and may also highlight new technical approaches for isolation and characterization EVs from biological fluids, as well as their application as diagnostic and therapeutic tool. Original Articles should address the physiopathology of extracellular vesicles in humans and experimental models, underling their potential role in pathogenesis, diagnosis, and therapeutics, including new findings on the use of EVs as biomarkers and/or as a new therapeutic strategy.
