Dear Colleagues,
Clinical and Experimental Obstetrics & Gynecology (CEOG) was founded in 1974 by the Italian gynecologist Prof. Antonio Onnis; after almost 50 years, the discipline has made great strides in Italy. Today, the obstetric part is more and more independent from the gynecological oncology, which is now an ultra-specialized branch enriched by clinical-pathological correlations, not only for the ascertained role of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) in oncogenesis and the consequent introduction of HPV-test in cervical cancer screening next to pap smear, but also for the availability of diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive immunohistochemistry and for the possibility of genomic profiling in female tumors through next-generation sequencing. Conceived as a tribute to CEOG founder, this special issue aims to illustrate by means of a multidisciplinary approach the state-of-the-art of obstetrics and gynecology in Italy, with particular reference to: miscarriage prevention, intrauterine unexplained death, sudden unexpected post-natal collapse, Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in pregnancy, thin layer pap smear, pap smear in the modern era, HPV test, HPV in situ hybridization, HPV vaccination, theranostics, minimally invasive surgery, robotic surgery, molecular gynecological oncology, mismatch repair deficiency, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and personalized oncology.
