Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Valvular heart disease (VHD) in developing and underdeveloped countries remains a frequent and serious condition. Although the incidence of valve disease in developed countries has decreased, new types of valve diseases are emerging. Significant advances have been made in the research and management of VHD in recent years. In this special issue, we will consider some of the more exciting developments. These include the potential of therapeutic strategies aimed at arresting the progression of aortic stenosis, aortic regurgitation, bicuspid aortic valve, mitral stenosis, mitral regurgitation, tricuspid valve disease, pulmonic valve disease, mixed valve disease, prosthetic valves, infective endocarditis, pregnancy and VHD surgical considerations, noncardiac surgery in patients with VHD, evidence gaps, and new percutaneous strategies for the treatment of valvular disease. In addition, articles on new directions in the prevention and management of infective endocarditis are welcome.
