Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Heart failure (HF) remains a significant concern for survivors of acute myocardial infarction (MI), despite advances in medical therapy and interventions. Disruptions in mitochondrial balance—specifically, the delicate interplay between mitochondrial fusion and fission—can lead to impaired metabolism, calcium imbalance, and increased reactive oxygen species, all of which contribute to cardiomyocyte death following myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury. Preserving mitochondrial structure and function could be an essential strategy for cardioprotection.

This special issue aims to review the latest strategies targeting mitochondria in the fight against MI and HF. It offers a comprehensive summary of recent molecular insights, identifies potential therapeutic targets, and discusses cardioprotective strategies from the past 5 years.

I invite you to contribute to this vital review, bringing your expertise to this critical area of research.
