Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Endometriosis is a common gynecology disease associated with a wide range of gynecological disorders, including infertility, chronic pelvic pain, bowel/bladder symptoms, depression, and even cancer, which nowadays has been considered as a “syndrome”. By definition, endometriosis is diagnosed when the presence of endometrial-like tissue outside the uterus visualized at surgery (typically by laparoscopy).

To better understand such heterogeneous disease, extensive studies have investigated endometrial pathology, both eutopic and ectopic, cellular and genetic aspects within the lesion microenvironment, but the etiology of this complex disease remains elusive. Since the onset of symptoms occurs far in advance of the diagnostic surgery, developing clinically useful non-invasive biomarkers for diagnosis is still an unmet need. Although a number of therapeutic strategies, which could be broadly classified as surgical and non-surgical interventions, are promising in alleviating symptoms, the efficacy remains minimal and high rates of recurrence inevitably occurs.

In the special issue of Endometriosis, we aim to provide additional studies and reviews, investigating this “syndrome” from an interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary perspective, including but not limited to minimally invasive surgery, analgesia management, reproductive medicine and oncology.  If your research within this field could be potentially applied for clinical benefit, we shall be happy to receive your manuscripts for peer-review.
