Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Although great strides have been made in the management of heart failure syndromes, the prognosis of cardiogenic shock (CS) remains poor. Indeed, even though the prognosis of patients with CS has improved over time due to aggressive reperfusion strategies, the in-hospital mortality from CS remains about 50%. Most importantly, these results should stimulate a broad investigation of new therapies to address this dreadful clinical problem. The editorial office of Reviews in Cardiovascular Medicine believes that research providing mechanistic insight into CS pathophysiology and management represents one of the most important opportunities to improve knowledge of the present low cardiac output syndrome.

We are seeking submissions of original research and review articles that discuss the pathophysiology of CS; discuss fundamental and clinical research in areas related to this topic; or provides select examples for novel treatments, paradigms, and concepts that have emerged over the past decade.
