Special Issue Information

Dear Colleadgues,

Natural products, a kind of chemical compounds or substances produced by living organisms, are holding a prominent position in new drug discovery and development, which therefore regain increasing attentions worldwide. The structural and chemical diversity of natural products and their related compounds not only provide the direct source of chemotherapeutic agents, but also indicate the potential concept to use natural products also as starting material for semi-synthesis of novel compounds with improved properties.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS), a by-product of cell metabolism, play a key role in health and disease due to their important roles in cell signal transduction through protein modification, cell survival, proliferation, differentiation, inflammation, ferroptosis, and autophagy regulations. Recently, more and more researches have indicated that the use of natural products for disease intervention and treatment is closely associated with oxidative stress regulations. Along with these evidence, understanding the underlying mechanisms associated with natural products regulated cellular redox homeostasis would be very helpful for the development of pharmacological agents targeting oxidative redox-dependent pathologies.

This special issue therefore focus on the most recent discoveries and insights associated with natural products or natural product-inspired molecules regulating oxidative stress, as well as their underlying mechanisms that might be on the frontiers of this research field to promote the new drug discovery and development. Reviews or results focusing on the use of some novel technologies, such as nanotechnology and sequencing technique, in the study of natural products regulating oxidative redox are particularly welcomed.
