Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The relationship between mental disorders and cardiovascular diseases is one of the biggest challenges in contemporary medicine. Mounting evidence suggests that psychiatric and cardiovascular conditions share complex bidirectional pathophysiological mechanisms involving inflammation, autonomic dysregulation, oxidative stress, neuroendocrine alterations, sleep and circadian dysfunction, vascular impairment, and maladaptive lifestyle factors. At the same time, psychological distress strongly influences cardiovascular prognosis, treatment adherence, and quality of life.
Recent advances in psychocardiology, neuroimaging, biomarker research, computational psychiatry, and translational neuroscience have reshaped our understanding of the heart–mind axis. In particular, increasing attention has been drawn to the role of stress-related mechanisms, trauma, metabolic dysfunction, neurovascular coupling, and systemic inflammation across disorders such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and stress-related conditions.
This Special Issue aims to gather original research articles, reviews, perspectives, and translational contributions exploring the interactions between mental and cardiovascular health from clinical, neurobiological, epidemiological, and therapeutic perspectives. Contributions addressing prevention strategies, precision psychiatry, lifestyle interventions, digital medicine, and integrated care models are also welcome.
