Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Eating disorders are severe psychiatric conditions characterized by high morbidity, medical complications, and persistent functional impairment. Despite advances in evidence-based treatments, outcomes remain heterogeneous, and relapse rates are substantial, highlighting the need to bridge mechanistic understanding with clinically relatable insights.

This Special Issue invites work that bridges the clinical core of eating disorders with contemporary neurobiological and computational perspectives. We welcome studies that dissect mechanisms across levels of analysis, from behavioral and cognitive phenotypes to neuroimaging, neurophysiology, and biomarker profiles, and that translate these insights into clinically meaningful advances in prognosis, staging, and response to treatments.

Submissions may include observational and experimental designs, clinical trials, computational approaches, and rigorous systematic reviews/meta-analyses. Particular emphasis is placed on integrative models that inform stratification and personalization of care, including novel interventions (e.g., neuromodulation, digital/immersive technologies), molecular mechanisms relevant to pharmacological target discovery and medication-based therapies, and evidence-based psychological interventions, including cognitive remediation approaches and psychotherapy.

By promoting methodological rigor and clinical relevance, this Special Issue aims to advance a mechanistically grounded and patient-centered approach to prevention, assessment, and treatment in eating disorders.
