Dear Colleagues,
Despite much effort so far to manage neurological diseases, it remains challenging to identify their multimodal development and the specific neurophysiologic pathways in the brain that affect the patient. Although significant progress has been made, neurodegeneration is difficult to treat and to diagnose holistically at an early stage. A cure has yet to been found for these disorders, prompting researchers to develop hybrid computational models for the detection of early symptoms, and for alternative methods and products to delay the development of disease. More research is required to identify biomarkers and to develop effective drugs that delay disease symptoms and lesions. As shown with Alzheimer's disease, the unsuccessful clinical trials for new holistic treatments and for drugs with fewer side-effects has revealed the need for precision medicine. This is required to address the increasing burden of comorbidities, for the design of new prognostic and treatment tools, and to improve the global health market for the millions of end-users.
In this special issue, we welcome neuroscientists to contribute articles that describe the efficient management of neurodegeneration, the genetic mechanisms, potential comorbidities, commonalities with related disorders, novel therapeutic approaches, as well as economic-social and ethical issues. All the papers invited by guest editors will be provided 30% discount.
