IMR Press Mourns the Passing of Professor Curt Tribble, Renowned Cardiac Surgery Specialist, Educator, and Associate Editor of The Heart Surgery Forum

We are deeply saddened by the sudden and unexpected passing of Prof. Curt Tribble on September 6, 2025.

Prof. Tribble served as an Associate Editor of The Heart Surgery Forum and was a Specialist in Cardiac Surgery at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He was a distinguished cardiothoracic surgeon, a dedicated educator, and a cherished mentor and friend to countless colleagues, students, and patients.

Shortly before his passing, we had the privilege of interviewing Prof. Tribble. That conversation, which will be published together with this announcement, highlights his lifelong devotion to surgery and education. He often emphasized that “the way we talk is the way we teach,” a principle that shaped his identity not only as a surgeon but also as a teacher and editor. He was deeply committed to guiding young scholars, championed the importance of communication in medicine, and shared thoughtful perspectives on the future of the field—from robotic surgery to artificial intelligence—approaching each advancement with both openness and discernment.

Prof. Tribble’s influence extended far beyond his surgical expertise. He was admired for his wisdom, humility, and compassion, and he touched the lives of everyone around him. While his passing is an immense loss to the medical and academic communities, the values he embodied and the inspiration he offered will endure for generations to come.

On behalf of IMR Press and The Heart Surgery Forum, we extend our sincerest condolences to Prof. Tribble’s family, friends, colleagues, and students. He will be remembered always with the deepest respect, gratitude, and affection.
