Dear Colleagues,

Adolescence is established as a stage with important opportunities to achieve well-being, but it also entails exposure to multiple changes and new situations that may pose risks with undesired outcomes. One of these outcomes may be exposure to or the practice of violent behaviors, which represents a significant form of dysfunctional behavior.​​ Thus, violence has been established as a global issue, with high prevalence and significant repercussions that compromise youth development.

Ensuring a life free of violence and enabling young people to live in safe environments is urgent. Understanding the motives, forms, and variables involved is the first step toward comprehending this reality and coordinating multidisciplinary efforts for its definitive eradication. Therefore, this special issue aims to encompass the wide range of perspectives that revolve around violence in adolescence, including but not limited to clinical assessment, intervention, and treatment approaches.​ Original research, comprehensive reviews, and systematic reviews that provide significant, high-quality contributions expanding current knowledge on this subject are welcome. Contributions with an international scope or those addressing violence in different contexts will be highly valued. Likewise, manuscripts that examine violence across multiple domains (family, school, and social/community), in different forms (physical, verbal, psychological, sexual), as well as through different means (e.g., social media and the internet, offline) will also be appreciated.

Some of the subjects to be emphasized in this special issue are:

-The clinical assessment, diagnosis, and development of instruments for violent behaviors​​

-Counseling, intervention, and treatment for perpetrators and/or victims of violence​

-Variables and protective factors against violence

-Risk profiles and behaviors related to violence

-Prevention programs in healthcare, psychological, and/or educational settings

-Medium- and long-term impact on physical, psychosocial, and educational well-being

-Social and cultural influences on the normalization of and vulnerability to violence
