Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Nonrapid eye movement (NREM) sleep is thought to be a general activating agent for epilepsy including interictal and ictal electrographic signals and clinical seizure manifestations. Recent studies of sleep research exploring the biological functions of NREM sleep have revolutionized epilepsy research. NREM is thought to be the basic state for plastic events of the brain, and is responsible for the regulation of synaptic transmissions, organization of cognitive functions such as memory, the control of higher communication functions in the thalamocortical system which organize cortical functions and the newly recognized resting state networks. In addition, the extension of the frequency range of EEG studies to high frequency (500-800 Hz) activity and recognizing it as a novel biomarker of epilepsy, catalyzed by NREM sleep, has added new insight into the genesis of epilepsy.

We invite all experimental and clinical researchers to submit relevant studies related to this exciting field to a special issue of JIN. The deadline for submission of this special issue will be June 30, 2023.
