Abstract
Rotator cuff tear is one of the most common shoulder injuries, often requiring surgical intervention, including options such as suture repair, autografts, allografts, and synthetic prostheses. While surgery can significantly improve outcomes, an ideal therapeutic strategy has not been found. Often, injuries respond poorly and require prolonged rehabilitation. Recent attention has been focused on biologic pathways which can augment tendon healing, consequently leading to the identification of growth factors. Herein, we review growth factors and their roles in rotator cuff healing.
