Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Plants, algae, cyanobacteria, and diverse environmental microorganisms play essential roles in maintaining ecological balance through oxygen production, nutrient cycling, and pollutant transformation. Their physiological and metabolic capabilities make them powerful allies for restoring contaminated environments, enhancing water and soil quality, and supporting sustainable production systems.
Given the increasing release of complex pollutants—including heavy metals, antibiotics, hydrocarbons, pesticides, and emerging contaminants—there is a growing need for integrative biotechnological approaches. Microbial communities, together with plants and algae, offer synergistic pathways for pollutant degradation, redox transformations, phytoremediation, and eco-friendly wastewater treatment.
This Special Issue invites contributions on innovative biological and eco-technological strategies for environmental remediation and sustainability, including (but not limited to):
- Applications of plants, algae, cyanobacteria, and bacteria in pollution mitigation and ecosystem resilience
- Phytoremediation and plant–microbe interactions for soil and water decontamination
- Nature-based systems for wastewater treatment and pollutant removal
- Discovery and characterization of novel biodegradation pathways
- Design of hybrid or advanced bioremediation technologies
- Sustainable biomass production and value-added bioproducts

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted via our online editorial system at https://imr.propub.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to start your submission. Manuscripts can be submitted now or up until the deadline. All papers will go through peer-review process. Accepted papers will be published in the journal (as soon as accepted) and meanwhile listed together on the special issue website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts will be thoroughly refereed through a double-blind peer-review process. Please visit the Instruction for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. There is an Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal. For details about the APC please see here. Submitted manuscripts should be well formatted in good English.
