Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The COVID-19 pandemic has been associated with an increased prevalence of psychological health issues. These issues can affect different aspects of people's lives as well as different communities in society. This pandemic has been a trigger for various types of mental health problems such as depression, anxiety and panic disorder.
Pregnant patients experience high stress during epidemics. A resulting consequence is that increased symptoms of depression and anxiety in pregnant patients are associated with an increased risk of preterm delivery, postpartum depression (PPD) and behavioral problems in children. The COVID-19 pandemic has been related to exacerbation of psychological problems such as depression and anxiety both in the antepartum and postpartum period. Pregnancy and the postpartum period are associated with disorders such as insomnia, relationship tension, and feelings of isolation, all which have caused mood disorders in many women. The result is that pregnant patients require significant social support during and after pregnancy.
