Publishing Director

We are seeking an experienced Publishing Director to join our team. This is a full-time position based in Singapore or Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee the strategic development and management of existing journals, working closely with Editors-in-Chief to ensure the effective achievement of publishing objectives.
  • Contribute to the company’s overall publishing strategy and support long-term business growth.
  • Conduct subject area analyses to identify emerging research trends within the field. Support launching and developing new journals in line with the annual publishing plan.
  • Optimize editorial workflows and publishing operations to improve efficiency and content quality.
  • Participate in the development and refinement of editorial and publishing standards, including academic content evaluation, peer review quality control, publication ethics, and related compliance frameworks.
  • Provide training and guidance to editorial staff to enhance capabilities in journal management and publishing practices.
  • Develop and expand strategic external partnerships with academic institutions, researchers, and industry stakeholders to enhance journal impact and brand visibility.
  • Support the development of partnerships with academic societies, conference organizers, and research institutions, facilitating collaborations in conferences, special issues, new journal launches, and other academic initiatives.
  • Represent the publisher at international publishing industry conferences, strengthen engagement with industry organizations, and enhance publishing standards and industry influence.
  • Attend international academic conferences to engage in scholarly exchange and journal promotion, and expand connections with industry experts and key academic stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development of the publisher’s author services, including initiatives such as statistical training and academic writing programs.
  • Monitor research policies, open access developments, major academic platforms, and key communication channels in relevant regions, and provide regular insights and reports.

Requirements:

  • PhD in molecular biology, biomedicine, life sciences, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in academic publishing, including but not limited to journal management, publishing operations, editorial leadership, or related roles.
  • Strong leadership, project management, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to drive and execute complex initiatives effectively.
  • Fluency in both English and Chinese (written and spoken).
  • Willingness to travel internationally for academic conferences, industry events, and external collaborations.
  • Candidates with an academic background at the Associate Professor level or above are preferred.
