Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The research and development of the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs) for China (2023) represent core theories and key technologies in nutritional science, providing an important reference standard for guiding the Chinese population toward proper nutrition and preventing both nutrient deficiencies and excesses.
The development of DRIs-2023 began in 2020. More than 80 experts were divided into 7 technical working groups to re-evaluate and refine recommended intakes for energy, macronutrients, vitamins, minerals, and other dietary components. This meticulous process led to the establishment of recommended values for more than 70 nutrients and other dietary components. Each of these recommendations is supported by scientific evidence.
Since the release of the Chinese edition in 2023, there has been no systematic English compilation providing a detailed account of the development process and updates of the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs). To address this, this special issue aims to systematically introduce several key nutrient categories covered in the DRIs-2023, including protein, macro elements, trace elements, fat-soluble vitamins, and water-soluble vitamins, elucidating their determination methods and specifying the reference values. The publication of this special issue is intended to provide a convenient resource for researchers worldwide, while also offering crucial technical support for the joint advancement of the “Healthy China” initiative.
