The Risk of Gynecological Cancer and Fertility Preservation

More and more women now postpone reproduction for personal reasons. The risk of developing a gynecologic cancer, including breast cancer, is difficult to estimate in women of reproductive age. Such cancers represent about 10% of all newly diagnosed cancers in this group of women.

The etiology of many gynecological cancers is not known or fully understood. Epidemiological studies are very helpful in identifying risk factors associated with the development of different types of gynecological cancers. Fertility is a major concern for women at risk of developing gynecologic cancers, with the loss of fertility being a major cause of anxiety, depression, and couple separation.

Fertility preservation for young patients with early gynecological cancers is well known and the protocols for this are well established. Preserving fertility in women at risk for gynecologic cancers is a more recent and delicate situation. Such cases are carefully selected and must be counseled by a multidisciplinary team (gynecologist, geneticist, fertility specialist) to offer the best advice.

The aim of this special issue is to bring together research in the field of gynecological oncology, especially in relation to fertility preservation. Submission of unpublished original studies, including fundamental and clinical research studies, observational and interventional studies, randomized controlled trials and reviews are all welcome. Authors are invited to contact the Editorial Team in advance if they require assistance with the preparation of their manuscript.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts will be thoroughly refereed through a double-blind peer-review process. Please visit the Instruction for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) in this open access journal is 1500 USD. Submitted manuscripts should be well formatted in good English.
