Washing puncture of Douglas pouch in early diagnosis and follow-up of ovarian tumours
The Authors describe the technique of washing puncture of Douglas pouch used in their department and report the results obtained in 268 cases. According to them, this method is reliable: –in the diagnosis of ovarian tumours in asymptomatic patients, since it is, so far, the only available method to detect the disease in good time, in some cases at least; –in the differentiated diagnosis of ovarian masses; –in the monitoring of operated ovarian tumours. Although the case-series in rather limited, the Authors believe that this method could be a reliable alternative to laparoscopy and second look.
