Abstract

The results obtained by dosing serum β-HCG levels in 56 patients affcted with non trophoblastic gynaecological tumors are reported. Ten normal women were considered as control group whereas the patients with neoplastic disease were: 28 cervical carcinoma, 20 adenocarcinoma of the endometrium and 8 ovarian carcinoma. The HCG beta Biodata kit was used. The ectopic production of β-HCG was found out also in non trophoblastic gynaecological tumors that could be considered a valid test for the diagnosis and the monitoring of patients with cervical carcinoma and for the follow up of the most advanced forms of endometrial cancer. Less significant was the value of the above mentioned measurement in ovarian cancer.
