Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The field of structural heart disease has undergone exponential growth over the past decade, including the critical role of cardiovascular imaging and advanced echocardiography. The continued development of 4-D echocardiography, improvements in transesophageal and intra-cardiac ultrasound technology, and expanded applications of speckle-tracking echocardiography, amongst others, have afforded the structural heart teams with enhanced diagnosis and management options for patients across multiple risk profiles. Additionally, these advancements have furthered our understanding of complex disorders from a pathophysiologic and epidemiologic standpoint, including valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathies, and acquired or congenital structural defects. In this special issue of “Reviews in Cardiovascular Medicine”, we extend an international invitation for submissions of original studies, in-depth reviews, and expert editorials presenting or discussing the use of advanced echocardiography in structural heart disease.
