Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The increasing incidence of valvular heart disease is being recognized as a result of global aging. The recent advances in imaging modalities and non-surgical treatment options have provided deeper insights into disease mechanisms, improved diagnosis, risk stratification and optimal timing for therapeutic interventions. In addition, technical improvements in valvular surgery are also taking place. However, it remains challenging to identify patients who are most likely to benefit from these novel techniques and procedures. In particular, degenerative-calcific valvular disease such as mitral annular calcification, or mitral and/or tricuspid regurgitation due to atrial fibrillation continue to be ongoing challenges.
The goal of this special issue is to review contemporary diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, and emerging surgical and interventional techniques in the evaluation and treatment of mitral and tricuspid valve disease.
