Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Sports cardiology is a fast developing branch of general cardiology dedicated to the promotion of physical activity in the general population, prevention of sports-related cardiovascular events, and defining the safe limits of physical activity for people with various cardiovascular conditions. One of the domains of sports cardiology is also to determine the boundary between physiological adaptation to exercise, referred to as athlete’s heart, and potential cardiovascular conditions in order to assist with decision-making relating to pre-participation screening. There are still many gaps in the evidence relating to specific categories of athletes. Moreover, there is a lack of prospective data on the safety profile of physical activities at higher intensities in patients with cardiovascular diseases. One of the focuses of sports cardiology in recent years has been to provide a safe return to play following Covid-19 infection, and to investigate for post-Covid-19 sequels in athletes. This Special Issue is dedicated to collecting studies that provide new insights and perspectives relating to sports cardiology.
