    Dear Colleagues,

    Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder that can have a major impact on the quality of life and is characterized by both motor and non-motor clinical symptoms. The pathological hallmarks of PD are abnormal accumulation of alpha-synuclein aggregates, Lewy bodies, and Lewy neuritis. The alpha-synucleinopathy in PD involves dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta of the midbrain, as well as other vulnerable neurotransmitter systems in the central nervous system. The pathophysiological mechanisms underlying various symptoms in patients with PD are still unclear. Both medication and surgical treatment can relieve the symptoms of PD patients, however fundamental treatments are still unavailable. This special edition will comprise papers that are pertinent to the study of PD. Major advances in PD research have been made in recent years and it is hoped this will be reflected in the manuscripts contained in this special edition. Potential topics include:
    • Motor and non-motor features in Parkinson’s disease
    • Neuroimaging in Parkinson’s disease
    • Genetics and Epidemiology of Parkinson’s disease
    • Medical treatment of Parkinson’s disease
    • Surgical treatment of Parkinson’s disease

    Manuscripts should be submitted via our online editorial system at https://imr.propub.com by registering and logging in to this website. Accepted papers will be published in the journal (as soon as accepted) and meanwhile listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, reviews as well as short communications are preferred. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office to announce on this website.

    Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts will be thoroughly refereed through a double-blind peer-review process. Please visit the Instruction for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) in this open access journal is 2200 USD. Submitted manuscripts should be well formatted in good English.
