Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The clinical and genetic heterogeneity of age-related neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, motor neuron disease and Parkinson’s disease delays their diagnosis and hinders the development of effective treatment options. Although a small proportion of patients present with a family history of disease and/or a disease-causative mutation, most develop the disease from an unknown aetiology. Unsurprisingly, a multitude of biological mechanisms underlie the onset and progression of neuronal degeneration. These include, but are not limited to, perturbations of proteostasis, cell signalling pathways, hormonal signalling, and metabolism. Some overlap occurs between several of the neurodegenerative diseases in terms of their biology, suggesting the possibility of treatments that have broad utility. A major challenge, however, is to identify the disease-causing mechanisms that should be targeted to enable effective therapeutic intervention.

This special issue entitled “Molecular Mechanisms of Age-Related Neurological Disease” aims to provide an overview of the approaches used to identify key pathways that contribute to these diseases. We invite authors to submit original research articles, reviews, or perspective articles from any related biological and clinical field.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted via our online editorial system at https://imr.propub.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to start your submission. Manuscripts can be submitted now or up until the deadline. All papers will go through peer-review process. Accepted papers will be published in the journal (as soon as accepted) and meanwhile listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, reviews as well as short communications are preferred. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office to announce on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts will be thoroughly refereed through a double-blind peer-review process. Please visit the Instruction for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) in this open access journal is 2200 USD. Submitted manuscripts should be well formatted in good English.
