Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The term ‘proteomics’ was introduced as a new philosophical heuristic almost three decades ago. Now is an opportune time to reflect upon the specific advances that have arisen from novel technological and conceptual innovations associated with high throughput protein analytical methods, including their use in combination with other powerful methods such as advanced imaging. These range from new insights into total or comparative cell-, organism-, taxa-, or biota-wide proteomes, through to in-depth characterization and/or commercialization of individual proteins whose discovery or characterization emanated from the proteomics toolbox. This may also extend to biophysical characterization of complex tissues or systems, systems biological mathematical modelling, or combinatorial chemistry and high throughput screening to generate novel pharmaceutical treatments against identified targets. While such a review cannot hope to be comprehensive, it can highlight the degree to which modern protein analytical techniques, now taken for granted, have contributed to the improvement of society. Ideally, the proteins covered in this review will be involved in important processes that exert a profound influence over cells involved in human health and disease, crop improvement, microbiological systems, etc. Therefore, the aim of this special issue is to describe the extent to which the known functions of important individual proteins or groups of proteins have contributed to the improved health or economic well-being of society, as well as their future potential. We therefore invite recognized leaders in these research fields to provide the scientific community and general public with informative and timely updates on their work, with an emphasis on the present and potential future exploitation of knowledge gained over recent years. Contributions can take the form of original results or reviews. In case of questions regarding suitability, please enquire with the editor.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted via our online editorial system at https://imr.propub.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to start your submission. Manuscripts can be submitted now or up until the deadline. All papers will go through peer-review process. Accepted papers will be published in the journal (as soon as accepted) and meanwhile listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, reviews as well as short communications are preferred. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office to announce on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts will be thoroughly refereed through a double-blind peer-review process. Please visit the Instruction for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) in this open access journal is 2500 USD. Submitted manuscripts should be well formatted in good English.
