Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Despite the development of innovative medical technologies, cancer remains a worldwide health concern. Cancer commonly recurs despite various treatments ranging from first-generation chemotherapy to third-generation immune checkpoint inhibitors. Tumor recurrence has been linked to cancer stem cells, thus, both cancer cells and cancer stem cells must be treated for effective treatment strategies. However, cancer stem cells are a minor subpopulation within the total tumor cell population, and current biomarkers that identify cancer stem cells have limitations in clinical application due to marker heterogeneity and plasticity within the population. Therefore, a targeting strategy is needed along with the discovery of new biomarkers to treat cancer stem cells, and improve diagnoses and prognoses. This special issue addresses a wide range of topics linked to advances in cancer stem cell biology such as the discovery of new cancer stem cell biomarkers and clinical applications of these biomarkers. Recent research and new advancements in this field, as well as other related topics, are welcome.
