Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia (VAIN) is still a neglected disease. Usually, it is found and treated by colposcopists during routine screening for cervical cancer. In the last years, some concerns about its management and treatment have risen, as it can be found in association of cervical cancer, after hysterectomy for benign conditions, as a precursor of vaginal invasive cancer.  Moreover, the issue is of greater interest as it has been reported that colposcopic patterns of the VAINs and CINs are not equivalent, because VAIN number can be lowered by HPV vaccination, and treated more conservatively than what previous supposed. Therefore, the European Journal of Gynaecological Oncology Editorial team aims to catalyze the interest of Scholars and Clinicians on the VAIN, promoting a special issue on the topic.

It is planned that the special issue would be arranged as following.

  1. A review-section in which guest Authors will investigate the pathogenesis of VAINs, the diagnosis of VAINs, the treatments of VAINs, and the follow-up of the VAINs.
  2. An original articles-section, in which Authors will give their contribution on VAINs (clinical study, translational sudy, molecular biology).
  3. A clinical-article section, in which small articles on clinical series of VAIN will be published. The articles would be 800-1000 words in length, with Kaplan-Meier’ curves illustrating time-person trend for recurrences of VAINs. Statistical comparisons are not mandatory, therefore is allowed the publications also of only a clinical series treated in the same way. Patients must be divided in groups according to treatments. The sample must be well described. Introduction is not needed. The article would have a Method section in which it must be described where patients were enrolled, when they were enrolled, if enrollment was retrospective or prospective, if Ethical approval was queried or if study was conducted according to Helsinki’ declaration. An unstructured, very short, abstract (50 to 100 words) must be provided. Discussion is not mandatory.
  4. A case report section, in which uncommon cases of VAINs would be welcome. Such cases would be presented briefly (600 to 800 words) and, if possible, will be supported by imaging.
  5. A perspective section, in which guest opinion leader and each contributors will be able to provide their perspective on key points and open questions on VAINs (800 words). The perspective’s articles do not need abstracts.
