Abstract

The Authors review the information actually available from a variety of sources on the effects of oral contraceptives on the breast. The results of epidemiologic studies in women who had used oral contraceptives show a decrease in the expected incidence of fibrocystic disease and no apparent action on the incidence of breast carcinoma. Prospective long-term studies are nevertheless necessary for a clearer understanding of the interaction between these hormones and breast disease.
