Dear Colleagues,
It is estimated that approximately 12% to 15% of couples suffer infertility. Currently, male infertility is thought to be approximately 20% of these cases, but among mixed causes of infertility this figure is belived to be around 15%. On the other hand, subfertility is another population group with an incidence rate of 10-30% within the general population. The Restorative Reproductive Medicine (RMM) approach to "abnormal cycles", with anatomical or functional pathology, increases the likelihood of achieving pregnancy in subfertile patients. This restorative methodology proposes a natural biological approach, and this is made possible by the application of a restorative fertility window and this approach to fertility problems can be favored in various clinical practice actions. Often, the standard approach for infertility is to avoid, or circumvent, these problems by treating infertility with artificial reproductive technologies (ART). However, ART does not resolve all cases of infertility and restorative approaches, such as restorative reproductive surgery (RRS), often offer a therapeutic option with a favorable cost-benefit ratio. Thus, what this restorative approach seeks to correct is the underlying anatomical problem and to provide the couple the best chance of achieving pregnancy. Currently, there are technical advances that allow clinicians to verify tubal patency using with minimally invasive surgery (MIS). Given these advances as well as our increasing knowledge of fertility promises a bright future, but will require continued adancements within the field to fully implement potential applications.
