Infant and adolescent gynecology is a continuously developing field in which new drugs and nutraceutical preparations have become available. However, there is still a lack of knowledge and of specific and effective treatments against longstanding problems such as dysmenorrhoea and disorders of the menstrual cycle. Polycystic ovarian syndrome in particular presents challenges related to its aetiology, diagnosis and treatment in infants and adolescents. Environmental pollution and endocrine disruptors should also be considered in relation to this topic, and physicians should be aware of their effects on fertility and impact on future generations.
A multidisciplinary approach is essential in this field of gynecology.
The present issue is therefore aimed at gynecologists with an interest in this topic, as well as paediatricians and paediatric endocrinologists, neonatologists, endocrinologists and basic researchers with new knowledge to share. Reviews, original papers, basic studies and commentaries in this area are all welcome.
