Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The growing burden of fertility disorders makes the effective treatment of infertility an urgent challenge in modern medicine. More than 40 years after the first IVF and over 30 years since the use of ICSI, ART methods have reached their peak effectiveness and appear to have plateaued. Reproductive medicine is currently facing numerous limitations and is marred by controversies. Infertility seems to involve multifactorial endocrine, environmental and genetic disorders that affect both partners and can therefore no longer be regarded as a homogeneous nosological entity. The effectiveness of any treatment for infertility is dependent upon the complexity of the underlying health problems, the specificity of certain conditions, and the technical limitations of the available diagnostic methods. The fundamental goal remains the same however, i.e. to discover and effectively treat any underlying health problems, thereby resolving the condition. New approaches that are minimally invasive, cost-effective and meet patient expectations are urgently required. Broader implementation of evidence-based research methods and a thorough evaluation of innovative treatment approaches should provide a blueprint for solving old problems in a new way.
It is my honour to invite you to submit your research articles to this special issue of CEOG that focuses on the current frontiers in reproductive medicine.
